UCDP REVIEWS LOCAL ELECTIONS 2011

The executive committee of the United Christian Democratic Party met on Monday, 23 May 2011, to review the performance of the party in the recent elections.

This executive that has only been in office for three months noted the poor performance in the elections. This was occasioned by lack of cooperation from some members in the party who are loyal to the former leader, Kgosi Lucas Mangope .

The party has been dragged to court by Kgosi Mangope even as recently as Thursday, 12 May 2011, after he turned down a request by the party lawyers to defer the matter until after election day.

It is common knowledge that some of the dissident members have been holding clandestine meetings with the Kgosi at his home and his Reviera Park office.

Such meetings were an obvious platform for counter campaigning against the legitimate leadership of the party.

The party did not register in some regions in the country mainly because some leaders in those areas delayed in submitting their candidates’ lists for ratification before the closing date. The party could then not be expected to have performed well under these circumstances.

The executive resolved to meet the elected councilors soon and pave the way forward for a Federal Council meeting at which to report the elections generally.

The executive wishes to thank members of the party and all South Africans who voted for the party. We have confidence in the elected councilors and know they will make their presence felt in the councils they will sit in.
